IELTS, short for International English Language Testing System is an examination administered in a paper-based format designed to assess the English language ability of candidates aiming to study or work where English is used as the language of communication. IELTS is the only English language test accepted for immigration purposes by all countries that require one.
The IELTS has four sections viz. Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. One can choose between the Academic or General Training disciplines of the test. Whereas the Listening and speaking sections are common for all candidates.
There are more than 500 test centres around the world for conducting IELTS, 3-4 times a month. The test can be taken as many times as you wish. It can be booked online or through British Council/IDP. IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment. The payment for the test can be made by credit card, designated bank or demand draft.
The duration of the test is approximately 2 hours 45 minutes.
